I was referred to the Open Gates Bed & Breakfast by some friends in Tolomato, Island and I was not disappointed in the least. I stayed for three days and was welcomed with fresh baked cookies upon my arrival on Saturday. Both Zack and Carrie May made me feel very much at home and made my stay very pleasant. I also met other wonderful guests during my stay and the breakfast and pastries was superb. The sweet stuffed Crepe cigars were exactly like the picture and tasted out of this world, I highly recommend this Bed & Breakfast and I plan to stay here next time I am in Darien.

This was a much needed mini vacation that turned out to be one of the most memorable ones ever thanks to Zack who was a very attentive host & great chief. The breakfast each morning was an award-winning scrumptious meal. When Zack found out it was my birthday, he had a special cookie cake waiting for me when we returned from our dinner (Yummy!!!). Thank you Zack! We stayed in the Blue room, which is a very quaint and cozy room. Loved the old town of Darien. Lots of local shops to keep you busy. Thank you Zack and Carrie for a wonderful time. We will be seeing you again, soon.

My husband and I booked one night at the Open Gates Bed & Breakfast and had such a great time we decided to spend an extra night! This B&B was the perfect HQ to see the old fishing town of Darien; Georgia’s second-oldest city with a fascinating history. Situated on charming Vernon Square and surrounded by moss-draped oak trees and churches, the B&B is within walking distance to restaurants, a wonderful wine bar and store, two great restaurants—one for seafood and one for fine dining--the shore and many shops. The new owners, Zach and Carrie, couldn’t do enough for us. Greeted by freshly baked cookies and warm smiles, we were led through the 100-year-old house (which was built by one of the lumber barons of Darien) outside to the lush garden with a pool and up the stairs to our private bungalow, The Garden Room. Breakfast the next day was totally made to order with poached eggs, thick cut bacon, French bread toast and homemade apple turnovers. Did we mention the hot, deliciously strong coffee? Chef Zach made us feel like we were old friends in a familiar house. We learned that he had spent years as a chef on private mega-yachts and his cooking and hospitality were certainly first class! We will return.

Response: Thank you so much for your kind words! We will do everything we can to make our guests comfortable, happy, and welcome in this beautiful bed and breakfast. We look forward to many more low country boils, weddings, events on the property, and seeing you again very soon! All the best for an amazing 2014! -Zach
