Open Gates B&B, built in 1876 by a wealthy timber baron, is uniquely situated for nature-lovers, history buffs, birders, boaters, and outdoor enthusiasts wanting to experience one of the richest natural ecosystems in the world. Located on historic Vernon Square, just one block from the shrimp boats on the Darien waterfront, Open Gates is surrounded by giant live oak and magnolia trees providing a private, relaxed atmosphere for your vacation getaway retreat, business trip or special event.

We are a family run, nature based business located in the small coastal village of Darien, Georgia.
Our goal as innkeepers is to provide our guests with excellent accommodations, while allowing them privacy and space to enjoy their stay and discover our unique area.
We love our chosen home and we’re dedicated to preserving our natural surroundings. As career biologists, we enjoy sharing our knowledge of our local ecosystem with our visitors. In turn, our guests enrich our lives with their own stories and experiences.
We are currently in our sixth year of innkeeping. We are also parents, community activists, business owners and biologists. Innkeeping has allowed us to integrate all of these things into an interesting, lively and rewarding life. We hope to see you here!
